Great find there Steven.
I also like reading the part under the "Risk Factors"
Also from what you found in the paid version that they say has no ads is the ads companys you seen...
| Quote: | | On occasion, we also offer to our software users, both paying and non-paying, other subscription services such as Identity Theft Protection and Consumer Credit Management. There are several providers of these types of additional services and we have in the past, and will continue in the future, to affiliate with these providers. |

this is not cyberdefender,
but this shows the dangers of whom you associate with and it should alert you to the dangers of being hood-winked by this type of company.
it relates to a sunbeltBLOG
about a new "almost rogue product"
which gives false positives on a scan and prompts users to buy the fully licensed product for removal of the offending discovery.
see the full article here:
http://sunbeltblog.blogspot.com/2007/06/mycleanerpc.html
make sure that you read the entire article.
this is where i sourced the post.

Then why even mention it in a topic dealing with CD? That is just as spurious as calling it malware on the basis of a Spybot S&D detection.
There are ample reasons not to like or use this application.MysteryFCM did an excellent job of documenting the installation, proving that (at that time, at least) there was no user option to decline the toolbar and demonstrating the presence of affiliate advertising links embedded in the program itself.
Documents available from the company itself, in the form of a stock offering prospectus, discusses those ads in terms of profit generation.
Documents available from the company itself, in the same prospectus, tout a p2p definition distribution scheme as a cost saving measure without ever mentioning the inherent risk to subscribers.
That same prospectus lists the number of employees at the company as 19! By the time you have ticked off the executives that doesn't leave many slots for research or customer service.
Also touted in the prospectus is some nebulous plan for detecting suspicious activity on one system, automagically generating a threat signature, which may sometimes require human intervention, and distributing it through the previously mentioned p2p network.
I have only seen one application that did a better job of condemning and hanging itself than this one.
But stick to the demonstrable facts. Run it yourself, document the results, and by all means post them here, but don't cite another application and suggest that CD might be like it without some sort of proof. As professionals we have a duty to be objective rather than subjective. The comment above is hardly objective. _________________

OF has the right to express his opinion as well no? I believe his point is well placed. It may have been wiser to start a new topic and reference this one so as to avoid confusion and let this one fade into the sunset.

This thread has been great to expose them and their shoddy support and run arounds to questions asked.
I'm sure people will read it and come to the obvious conclusion that their app is really not worth the time to even trial. At least that's what I have gotten from it. _________________ Ultimate Countermeasures Page

Why won't this Cyber Defender uninstall from my desk top? This is just another Smitfraud virus scam. Does anyone know how to remove Cyber Defender from the desk top?
