Windows XP Pro is the first microsoft operating system I have used that has a lot of unneccassary additional components i refer to as bloat.
Although it is pretty to look at visual styles etc, Under the hood at its core it is essentially just windows 2000 mark II.
The only other difference from it and 2000 from my home experiences is the added security features.
The product activation schemes and genuine advantage systems turn me right off it for internet use.
It is not a wise choice for low end systems.
Unfortuately it is the most hacked core of the microsoft distro's.

I would agree that it has a lot of unneccessary bloat but XP Pro is, at least for me, quite a bit more stable than previous releases, not including W2k or NT and it''s been just as stable as Ubuntu Linux during the 4 months I was using it. I don''t have the BSOD''s that came routinely with 95 and 98.

The only thing I give Ubuntu is that it has far better resource management.
